The Chennuri Family

Late Sri Chennuri Venkata Subba Rao

The beginning of Chennuri Family

Late Sri Chennuri Venkata Subba Rao garu who died in the 1949 cyclone in his house, is known as a very generous, kindhearted and philanthropist in CHENNURU Village, Pedana Mandal, Krishna District. Late Subbarao garu also known as Minor Subba Rao in Chennuru and surrounding villages because he took up the family responsibility when he was a minor and later functioned as President of CHENNURU Village for a long time. Though he had good pieces of cultivable lands and few acres with mango trees, coconut trees, the property slowly come down to zero and it was spent on general welfare activities of the village and on freedom movement in a span of 3-4 decades.

The senior generation

Late Subba Rao garu had 4 sons and 3 daughters and after his death, the family members moved out of Chennuru village to Bandar and then to Vijayawada – Guntur and later to Hyderabad on jobs. The four brothers namely Chennuri Chalapati Rao ( worked in Indian Railways), Chennuri Dasaradha RamaRao ( worked in Indian Posts), Chennuri Janaki Ram ( worked in LIC of India) and Chennuri Pardha Saradhi ( worked in BHEL) with strong bonding as one family grew up in their jobs and lives and brought up their children in the same manner resulting to say that CHARITY runs in the family DNA.

Sri Chennuri Janaki Ram

Late Chennuri Janaki Ram garu, who studied just SSLC, but came up in his career in a very hard way in LIC of India. He worked as Development officer in Jaggayyapet, Krishna Dist. for 13 years from 1958 to 1971 and he made a NAME for himself in that small town without any local position nor any property or business.

Understanding the needs in early 60s, Mr. Janakiram worked hard with the then local politicians like Sri Samineni Viswanatham (his son Sri Samineni Udaya Bhanu is an ex-MLA and current political leader) and Sri Gonuguntla Nageswara Rao and others, and became a main person and instrumental in starting Jawaharlal Nehru Primary Montessori School (the first English medium convent) in Sitaram Puram, Jaggayyapet.

Later again seeing the needs of the small town , Jaggayyapet, Mr. JanakiRam worked on bringing a JUNIOR COLLEGE to that town. In those days, for a Junior collage, the permission had to come from the University and Mr. Janaki Ram played a key role in getting that permission from Andhra University using his good offices and with Authorities in Visakha Patnam. With a big donor from GENTALA family, a Smt Gentela Sakuntalamma Junior college was inaugurated around 1968-69.

That is the reason why though Sri Janakiram garu left for Guntur on promotion as Asst Branch manager – LIC of India in 1971, he is still remembered by elders even today in Jaggayyapet. Mr. Samineni Udaya Bhanu , political leader from Jaggayyapet was telling about late Janakiram garu when we spoke about him in one of the meetings. Sri JanakiRam garu was ably supported by his wife Smt Rama Lakshmi in all his professional, social and family activities.
